Directions to Boxtree from the hotel

Here are some directions from the Holiday Inn to the wedding, for anyone who doesn’t have or doesn’t trust their GPS. If you use Google Maps you get essentially the same thing, just without the details. I’d recommend planning for 25-30 minutes since traffic can really slow you down on Rt. 24 in Vinton.

9.7 mi – about 17 mins (estimated by Google)

START: Holiday Inn Hotel Roanoke – Valley View
3315 Ordway Drive Northwest
Roanoke, VA 24017
(540) 362-4500

1. Head south on Ordway Dr NW toward Ferndale Dr NW 0.2 mi
2. Turn left at Hershberger Rd NW 167 ft
3. Merge onto I-581 S/US-220 S via the ramp to Downtown 3.9 mi
4. Take exit 6 for VA-24/Elm Ave 0.2 mi
5. Turn left at Elm Ave E – you are now on Rt. 24. The name of the road will change some, but just stay on 24 for 3.2 mi
6. Slight right at Hardy Rd/State Route 634 (the road you are on will already be called Hardy St before this turn) – here you are leaving Rt. 24. This slight right is just after the Lake Drive Plaza Shopping Center, which is just after Famous Anthony’s (both on the right). 1.7 mi
7. You will go under a stone underpass, directly afterward you can turn right at Hammond Dr. Follow the signs to Boxtree (Not Braeloch), and then go through the wooden gate labelled “Parking.” We plan to have Wedding signs along this road as well.

END: Boxtree Lodge VMCC
2393 Hammond Drive
Vinton, VA 24179-2370

Clarifications…

Sounds like our last post made it more confusing for some people instead of the intended less confusing…

So here are some examples are what you could wear to our wedding:

  • For the Ladies:
    • Sundress
    • Skirt and top
    • Pants and top
    • Dress
  • For the Men:
    • Pants and polo shirt
    • Pants and button-down shirt (short sleeve or long sleeve)
    • Suit (if you really want to…but beware, it will be hot)

When we say “pants” we really just mean anything at least a step above jeans. Khakis are definitely OK. Pants covered in holes…probably not. The main point is that we want you to be comfortable and presentable, and otherwise we don’t really care. We just want you to enjoy the day and not die of heat exhaustion!

If you have a hat you want to wear to beat the heat, you are more than welcome to do so!

In case it matters: the groomsmen are wearing black suits, and the bridesmaids are wearing knee-length green dresses.

Looking forward to seeing you all in less than a week. :)

Summary of What You Need to Know

It sounds like people have some questions about the wedding, so I wanted to quickly summarize a lot of the information you can find throughout the site for anyone who has forgotten:

  1. The ceremony will be outside, the cocktail hour will be outside, and the reception will be inside (with air conditioning). All areas are handicap accessible.
  2. Any family who will be getting to town early are welcome to come and help us set up on Friday afternoon! We would love any help you can give.
  3. My Aunt Diane is our Day-of coordinator, and she will help make sure everything runs smoothly on Saturday. She will thus be making sure everything gets done that needs to be done that day, so one of us may ask you to help out with something!
  4. Dress should be church clothes, maybe what you’d wear to an Easter service? Basically, no jeans, no cutoffs. We’d like you to be comfortable and ready to celebrate while still being “presentable”…that’s it!
  5. Family and Wedding Party were invited to a Rehearsal Dinner, I believe the RSVP deadline has already passed.
  6. We’re really excited to see you all and have you celebrate with us!!!

Please let me know if you have any other questions that haven’t been addressed!

Gift Registry Update

We added another registry to our list: Crate & Barrel.

Yesterday we were buying a present for a friend’s wedding and ended up there. This was the second time in the past few months we’ve bought wedding presents from their website, and we realized we really liked what we were buying for other people! So that led us to browsing their store and finding some things we haven’t been able to find anywhere else! Since we already knew we probably needed a little more variety, we went ahead and started this other registry! So if you are still looking for a gift for us, you can consider this store as well.

A few people have asked us what we actually want on our registry. We have been very careful to only put things on that we would love to have and know we’d use, so anything you buy from there will be greatly appreciated! And of course, awesome things from elsewhere are also appreciated (see earlier registry posts). :)

Thanks to all of you who have already sent us gifts! It’s been so exciting to open the packages, and we are already enjoying all of the items!

Let the Countdown Begin!

Now we’re at TWO WEEKS before the wedding! Time sure does fly, especially when you are out of town for most of it! It’s amazing how much we have left to do in 2 weeks, but we’ve accomplished a lot!

A little after writing the last blog post we managed to find our wedding bands! I’m super excited about them. Tim already has his, but I probably won’t have mine until the week of the wedding. We both love them though. We did not go with matching bands, but instead each picked out what ring we wanted for ourselves. I’ll leave what they look like as a surprise for the wedding day!

Friday we spent hours working on music for the reception (such as a first dance song), and timing for the events of the reception. Yesterday we tackled most of the shopping that was left to do for the wedding. We now have all of the apparel items for everyone in the wedding, our centerpieces (minus the flowers, of course), decorations for wedding and reception, and it only took 6 hours at the mall! What a tiring day, but well worth it.

This week we have to finish deciding on the details for the ceremony, determine final counts for the caterer and the final menu, decide on cocktail hour menu, and get as much information as possible to the DJ. Look for more information up soon about things to do in the Roanoke area in your spare time!

Looking forward to seeing you in less than 2 weeks!
