At the moment, these pages contain only a small portion of the five week trip I took with two friends to Europe during the summer of 2001.

The idea of backpacking through Europe had always been a fantasy in the back of my mind, especially after a friend of mine did a similar trip by himself while we were in high school. As I planned this trip with my friend Rebecca, the idea remained fantastical - even until the last day when we flew out of Newark to Paris.

All told the trip lasted five weeks, during which time we traveled through first France and then Spain. The final two weeks of my stay were at a spanish language school in Malaga. It would have been nice to have had the added language proficiency during the trip, but the relaxed classroom and nearby beaches seemed a nice way to end my journey.

It was a great trip. I had previously left the country only to go to South East Asia two summers earlier, so it was my first time in Europe. I discovered that not only were there different sights to see there, but different people and different cultures from the one I was used to.

To start the trip like I did, begin in Paris. Or, choose whatever seems the most interesting!
